President's Message

Wow! As George Nagelschmidt noted, "What a way to start the New Millennium!" DQS has a lot to be proud of from Year 2000! In 2000 we organized ‘Operation Gold Starand we were able to make the 1st Operation Gold Star Trip a reality and a piece of history! We (DQS) took the Mothers to Vietnam and helped them to ‘walk where their son’s had walked’! FEELS GOOD!
We then completed the year with an excellent, enjoyable, fulfilling, well attended DQS Reunion in Washington, D.C.! WAS GOOD! IS GOOD! Looking back, it is a little overwhelming; but after all, "WE ARE SOMEBODY"! STAND TALL — BE PROUD! YOU DESERVE IT! THANK YOU!

In 2001 we need to maintain and strengthen the DQS participation in Operation Gold Star. We need to share the fulfillment realized from this DQS effort. We’ll need much more involvement from out total membership to sustain this effort and to accomplish our mission. We need to give $$, raise $$ and solicit $$ from others. We need DQS Vets to participate in the trips. Don’t wait for others. STEP FORWARD! The positive emotions and the fulfillment you will experience and enjoy as a result of escorting these Gold Star Mothers are PRICELESS! Right, John? Correct, Smitty? Bruce? George? Ed says, YES!

In addition, we will continue to hold enjoyable reunions and participate in other opportunities that come forth. We will continue to seek out even more of our fellow DQS Vets. We’ve topped 2000 ‘finds’— maybe we’ll top 2000 good addresses. (Some don’t keep us up-to-date and some have, sadly, passed on — before or after we’ve located them.) We will also endeavor to ‘get back on track’ in regard to serving you, the membership, through timely (this one is running late), interesting, informative newsletters and etc. We hope to improve on our ability to ‘Shoot, Move & Communicate’. Our ability to do so would be greatly enhanced by more and more of our members stepping forward to lend a hand in or to take responsibility for some of what we do - at reunions, behind the scenes and etc. Won’t you join-in with your ‘can do’ attitude?

Send in your Dues Donations — Come to Reunions — Lend a Hand - Be a part of Us!!

I feel very proud and fortunate to be a part of what you, my DQS Brothers, have accomplished. When I look back over my years of participation in DQS, I am humbled to see what a small band of brothers has become and what they have done. Tears form in my eyes when I see that though we have known many horrors and hardships; we are kind, we are giving, we are sharing and we are caring. YOU are the best medicine a DQS Vet could have. One (or so) dose(s) a year does wonders! Some of you aren’t as pretty as others, but I love you all — BROTHERS!

TOGETHER THEN — TOGETHER AGAIN

Tell ‘em again, Hughie! "WE ARE SOMBODY!"

*DQS Banquet Entertainment Note: Ron Jones, Vietnam Veteran Singer/Songwriter, will be coming to our reunion in Paducah! Those who attend the Indiana Vietnam Veterans Re-union in Kokomo know Ron and his music. We look forward to enjoying his talents! Ron served with 2nd/327th Inf of the 101st Airborne Div in 1967 & 1968. COME & ENJOY!
