In order to plan and to continue OPERATION GOLD STAR trips we desperately need a pool of DQS Vets who want to or are willing to participate. We have a pool of Gold Star Mothers who are eager and waiting to go. We need to know who from DQS is available and where they would like to go in Vietnam. We need this prior to setting up a trip; not after we plan a trip. We won't know 'if there is a trip' until we are aware that we have interested DQS Vets for the trips.
You do not have to know exactly when you can go to let us know that you wish to be a part of this worthy endeavor. When we contact you about a particular trip (which, if you go, will be crafted to include your area of interest in Vietnam), you will be able to decide at that time. Not sure that you can afford to go? Let us know that you want to go and see where you are at when your trip is being planned. If you 'signed up' for an earlier non-Operation Gold Star effort 2 or 3 years ago, we do not have access to that information. If you have questions about the cost of a trip, contact George Nagelschmidt or myself (Ed Allen). Airfare is the most costly part of the trip and fares are down now!

** Without DQS volunteers to accompany the ladies, OGS can not function! It would be very sad to have to cancel Operation Gold Star due to lack of interest by DQS Vets!!!
Don't wait! Be a leader! Step forward! Send your info now! You are not in the Army now - it is okay to volunteer! The ladies are waiting and time is short for many of them! Show them that you (DQS) care!
SAD: Since the above was written, we have learned that one of the Gold Star Mothers on our list has passed away and that the health of another has deteriorated to the extent that she will not be able to realize her dream. Please do not delay letting us know of vour availability for/interest in Operation Gold Star. TIME IS TOO PRECIOUS! GOOD: We have had 2 or 3 DQS Vets come forward and express interest in participating in an OGS Trip. We are over 80% in regard to funding (finally!). (Even closer now!) Therefore we have commenced planning an OGS Trip for this August. Our thanks to the guys who have stepped forward and made this possible! We still need to raise the remaining funds for this trip and funds for future (your) trips. To date 90+% of the funds raised have been raised or donated by around 1% of our membership. This has been very disappointing. Surely, we can do better than this! Let the DOS Spirit shine through you! We definitely need to hear from the membership to secure the success and fiiture of this awesome opportunity!
