EAGLE INVITE

Received from Jerry Berry who served with 3/506 (CURRAHEES), 101st Abn Div in 67-68. You may remember that he is writing a book and is including info on the Dusters, Quads and Searchlights that were attached to them. If you were attached to them or have knowledge related to this you may still contact him at currahee@libby.org or at 438 Manor Dr Libby, Montana 59923. By phone (406)-293-7678.

Subject: Reunion

Gentlemen, the 101st Airborne Division Association will have a "Gathering of Eagles" for it's 54th Annual Reunion at the Holiday Inn Hampton Hotel & Conference Center located at 1815 West Mercury Blvd. in Hampton, Virginia - Zip: 23666-3229. Phone: (757)-838-0200. Fax: (757)-838-4964. E-mail: holiday@event.net. The reunion will be held August 11 through August 14, 1999. The reunion will be hosted by the General William C. Lee Chapter, 101st Airborne Division Association.

This reunion is emphasizing "HONORING VIETNAM VETERANS" who fought with the 101st Airborne Division. All Vietnam Veterans who were attached to or have other ties to the 101st are welcome to join as Associate Members and to attend the reunion.

I'm sending this to you guys and am inviting all of you to join us (the 3/506 group that operated out of LZ Betty at Phan Thiet). We plan to hold our own little mini-reunion while attending the mother reunion. We'll reserve a special hospitality room to get together, show slides, tell lies and do all of the good things that we do when we meet up with good friends. This could catch on with other units, who knows? We in the 3/506 (a lot of us will be there) would love to see you guys again. Give it some thought.          Jerry

Please do 'give it a thought'. These guys have expressed a lot of appreciation of and for our service with and to them. Those that can 'fit this in' your schedules are urged to go. Perhaps you might contact a DQS friend and have him go with you. If you go, please report back to us on your activities - either a write-up, a note, an e-mail or a phone call. We'd appreciate it! Who knows, I may find a way to make it!           ED

DO      YOU      KNOW?

One of our members would like info on the following incident: On or around Halloween 1969 a Special Forces (5th SF) Camp located at Duc Lat (sp?), which was 4 klicks from the Cambodian border and south of Ban Me Thuot, came under siege. There were Duster(s?) and a Searchlight there and the Searchlight left just before this took place. Our DQS member wonders "What happened to the Duster guys?" "Did they get out?" It is known that Sgt. John Warren was lost in this action. Units involved would have been 4/60 & B-29. Can anyone help us out? Were you there? Do you know what happened?

Do these songs remind you of 'Nam? Nowhere to Run, Rescue Me, California (or someplace)Dreamin', Run Through the Jungle,, Bad Moon A-Risin', These Boots are Made For Walkin', We Gotta Get Out of This Place, Dream Lover, Machine Gun - by Hendrix? A couple that tugged at me were Indiana Wants Me - by R Dean Taylor and Going Back To Indiana - by The Jackson Five. Though not huge hits, both struck a chord with me. What about you? What songs do you remember from 'Nam or remind you of 'Nam? Just wondering.
