We will tour the museum and other exhibits and be 'piped' aboard the Kidd to tour the ship. There will be time to visit nearby restaurants and etc. prior to holding our Candlelight Memorial Service on the grounds of the USS KIDD MEMORIAL. The Kidd will salute our fallen comrades with one of its 5" guns!!
**Admission to the Kidd Memorial for our group will allow unlimited visits during your stay in Baton Rouge. Just go to the admission desk and let them know that you are attending the DQS Reunion with Candlelight Service to be held at the Kidd and you will be admitted at no cost. Our costs for admissions and the Candlelight Memorial Service will run $9 per person - to be collected at sign-in. Please assist us in the timely collection of these costs and you are urged to take advantage of the unlimited visitation to fully enjoy the offerings present.
SATURDAY - July 10: We will open the Banquet Room by 11 am with an open bar and will have a cake to celebrate the 100 years of service to our country by 1/44 and its predecessor on display (we'll eat it later). Official Group Pictures will be taken either just prior to this or during this time - depending on the location selected. Around noon we will begin the DQS Banquet. The good food and excellent company will be enhanced by entertainment this year! The cost of the Banquet/Entertainment will run $14 per person - to be collected at sign-in. Our program (awards, acknowledgments & etc.) will follow the meal and entertainment.
After a short break, we will hold our Annual DQS Business Meeting. Then it is back to visiting, remembering, VHS tape viewing and etc. In the evening, we will hold a 1/2 pot drawing and the Chinese Auction (don't forget to bring your addition(s) to donate) will end with the winners being announced.
SUNDAY - July 11: At approximately 9:30 am or so, we will the DQS Church (Uplift/Departure) Service. To accommodate travel requirements, we will aim for a 30 to 40 minute time frame.
TAXI
For those arriving by air and requiring transportation to and from the reunion site (hotel), arrangements have been made with TIGER TAXI for a flat rate of $2O - up to 4 people per cab. If you call in advance with your flight number and arrival date, they will be waiting on you. If you call after you arrive, do so as soon as you get off of the plane (will save time) and they will pick you up near the Avis Rental Pick-Up Stand (where Avis picks their customers up to take them to their facility). REUNION PHOTOS
Robert Alexander of Jackson, Mississippi will be attending our reunion and will take photos throughout the reunion, including the Group photos on Saturday (July 10) morning just prior to the DQS Banquet. Robert, who served in the US Navy as an Aviator, will be taking photos Thursday through Saturday which will be posted and which will be available for purchase by DQS members. He will have order forms available for the Group Photos and will have other interesting possibilities for your consideration. One such possibility is the Commemorative Print which may be ordered at any time (possibly as a Christmas, Birthday or other gift). You are encouraged to take an order form home with you for future consideration. We will take the following Group Photos-. DQS Vets, Duster Vets, Quad Vets, Searchlight Vets - all may be taken with wives & etc. also. Vulcan and Hawk photos will be taken, if the desire exists. If you have other thoughts or desires, please let us know. Robert will work with us on these.
