Morris; I think you have the wrong date for this attack. Con Thien was HEAVILY attacked but NOT overrun on the 8th of May 1967, similar to your description of the battle. There were 4 Dusters of B/1-44's 2nd platoon, 1st & 3rd sections there. Two men of these crews were KIA : E4 James Cribbs from Dallas, Texas and E3 Gerald Schneider from NY,NY. One of the KIAs sacrificed his life in saving the lives of his Duster crewmates and those wounded Marines near him. His courage in the face of the NVA was an inspiration to the men near him and helped immeasurably in repelling the enemy. There also were 9 WIAs among these four Duster crews that night. The timing of this attack was on the 13th anniversary of the fall of Dien Bien Phu. Camp J.J. Carroll was also hit this night. PS: I haven't read of any landing strip at Con Thein as it was only supplied by helicopter or road in 1967. (I hope this info helps you) Moderated By: pkopsick@yahoo.com
