I have always wondered;when I reported for pay to officer in basic at Ft. Benning, I was told not to salute as I did in marine corps reserves. I was told to always salute to an officer only in uniform to another in uniform. Is the presidential salute to the marine nco when he debarks the helicopter correct according to law or a tradition started by President Reagan?
