Subject: History Fanatics Quad 50 Project - needs donations

URL: History Fanatics Site

As mentioned in the last newsletter, a group called History Fanatics is interested in reconstructing a Quad 50 gun truck.

The cost will be about $30,000 and they are looking for donations, support and information.

The Association will continue to support their efforts and make a donation but we can not do it alone. We are also looking for donations from our membership, especially the Quad guys. If you are capable of making a donation, please do. Having a mobile Quad 50 available at future reunions would be way cool! We have someone that can and wants to do it, they have located most of the pieces and all they need now is money.

Here is the summary of the proposed project from their newsletter. Check the link for their website.

Current Project: Viet Nam Quad .50 Truck
Currently, History Fanatics is working on replicating a Viet Nam era 2½-Ton Quad .50 Gun Truck. A suitable M35A2 truck has been located in Boerne, Texas. Besides needing an appropriate paint job and cab canvas, it needs nothing! It lists for $2,500!! I haven’t found one in better shape for less.

In addition, the same person has an M105 series 1½ Ton Cargo Trailer for $300. This is the trailer which goes behind the truck.

The simulated-firing .50 caliber machine guns are available from www.Replicagunsandmodels.com. They list for $2,700 each. To ensure the accuracy of this project, we need to acquire at least two simulated-firing replicas. In addition, we need to acquire two of the non-firing replicas at $1,300 each.
The most important part of the quad .50 mount has been located at www.ArmyJeeps.net, and lists for $16,500. We understand that’s a lot of money. But, that is also the crucial part of the whole project.
Okay, by now you are asking what part of this that History Fanatics contributes. Well, that’s a good question. And, I will tell you. With the exception of the having the financial status to afford the artifacts, I do EVERYTHING else. As the Executive Director and Secretary/Treasurer of History Fanatics, I am responsible for the actual acquisition, the paperwork, the insurance, the labor, the storage, and the transportation, as well as all associated costs. Add to this all the miscellaneous costs to get the guns to work, such as propane and oxygen, hoses, batteries, etc.

If you want to contribute to the project, please be assured that 100% of your contribution goes to the project. Please contact me at Robert@HistoryFanatics.net if you have questions or comments.

As the costs are somewhat overwhelming for History Fanatics, we really appreciate your help. History Fanatics doesn’t have the overhead expenses that most organizations suffer from, so all assistance that you provide goes directly to the projects.

================================

If anyone knows of another quad gun mount available out there please let us know. The work will be done out of Houston, Texas so if you Texicans want to get together and work on the project, that can probably be arranged.

Maybe we can do a Quad 50 Challange coin to raise money for the restoration?

Question: does anyone in the Association have a company that does magnetic signs? If so, contact the Historian.

For you Searchlight guys out there, there are M-151-A1 jeeps out there as well and Clyde Larson already has the light. Hmmmm...sounds like another project?
