Subject: Oscar winner Hurt Locker - Warning!

I wanted to repost this message from last July, when I saw this movie.

Sam Hopkins recently sent me an email about an American soldier in Iraq who worked in bomb disposal. An incredible and inspiring photo and story.

Partly in response to that email, I went with my son to see the new movie receiving many good review called the Hurt Locker dealing with the same subject.

I have to say that I was not able to sit through it. I had to leave the theater.

The filming and stories were so realistic I felt all the emotions the soldiers on the screen were experiencing. I could actually feel my blood pressure rising and I became physically ill and had to leave the theater. My son did stay to the end.

It took me a while to calm down.

I know this movie is an extreme depiction of their situation and a stark view into the lives of these men and the wars in Iraq and Afganistan, but I was really affected by what I was seeing.

I never considered myself a PTSD candidate, but I caution anyone with PTDS issues to NOT see this movie. I do hope a good portion of America does see it to get a real feeling for what these incredible men and women in the military have to deal with every day in these forsaken lands.

Addendum:
Now that this movie has won the Best Picture Oscar, I am sure it will get a wider distribution than the largely "Art Theaters" it has been shown in. So again, I caution all vets about the intensity of this movie.

If you have already seen this movie I would like to know if you reacted as strongly as I did.

For further discussion, my favorite "War Movie" of all time was the WWII movie "Sahara" with Bogart as a tank commander in northern Africa. Just the right mix of valor and values for that timeframe.
