Subject: Passing of Del Rouse 3Jan12 Denver D-5/2 '66-67

URL: Rouse obituary

I just wanted to let the group know that Del Rouse passed away in January.

He was diagnosed with lung cancer in late October. He started radiation and chemotherapy the Thursday before Thanksgiving and finished his first round of treatment on December 15th.

He was tired, but feeling good and was ready to start his next round of treatment on December 29th. On the 29th he was dehydrated and I took him into the doctors for fluids. After they gave him the fluids he felt fine, but they decided they wouldn’t start treatment that day. I took him home and he was talking and joking around in the car.

He got out of the car and went into the house and passed out. Later that evening he was coming out of the bathroom and passed out again. He went to bed and the next morning he couldn’t get out of bed because his back really hurt.

He was admitted to the hospital Friday evening (12/30). New Years Eve (Saturday) they discovered that he had developed pneumonia and his right lung was completely compromised. Early Sunday morning they admitted him to ICU. They put him on strong antibiotics and a T-pap for his breathing.

Monday he began to go down hill. His breathing was becoming increasingly worse and the oxygen and antibiotics were not doing what we had hoped. He passed away Tuesday, January 3rd. He was buried at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on January 13th.
